What Do You Do with a Talent?
I don’t know how it happened,
but one day,
I found out that I had a talent.
I didn’t know what to do with it,
so I left it there.
Why was it here?
What was I supposed to do with it?
“What do you do with a talent?” I thought.
At first, it didn’t bother me.
But it seemed to like me,
so I tried ignoring it.
It followed me everywhere I went.
So I acted as if it wasn’t mine.
I didn’t want it here.
I made faces at it. I shooed it away.
I tried ignoring it.
But nothing worked.
I started to worry about my talent.
What was I supposed to do with it?
I worried that others would laugh at me.
And tease me of my talent.
So I kept it a secret.
I hid it everywhere I went.
So I could try to be normal.
But there was something special about my talent,
something that comforted me,
and something unique that made me feel good.
At first, it was shy,
but the more I played with it,
the more it grew.
And soon, I almost believed in it.
I showed it to other people,
though most of the time,
they would laugh at it,
and tease me about it,
and say it was no good.
And the more and more they doubted it,
the more I doubted it too.
And I almost believed them.
But then, I realized that this was my talent,
and not theirs.
Afterall, what did they know about my talent?
I decided to care for it, play with it,
and treasure it with all my heart.
My talent grew and grew.
And so did my love for it.
I had changed,
I believed in it now.
I loved my talent,
it made me feel as if I could do anything
I could imagine.
It inspired me to nurture it,
and stick with it,
and most of all,
love it.
It shared me it’s secrets,
and showed me that I could do anything I wanted,
even if others didn’t like it.
I couldn’t imagine
my life without it.
Then, one day,
it grew wings and soared through the sky.
And when I showed it to other people,
they wouldn’t laugh,
but enjoy it.
And for the first time,
I realized that it truly believed in itself.
And that I believed in it too.
And from then on,
I didn’t care of what people thought of my talent,
even though it maybe was weird, mysterious,
and even crazy.
And for the first time,
I could share it with the world
knowing that I didn’t have to worry about it.
I don’t know how to explain it,
but being with my talent had showed me
that if you truly believe you can,
you could change the world.
